Peace Concert
CYPRUS, ISLAND OF PEACE !
February 20, 2010 at Ledra Palace (Cyprus UN Buffer Zone)
ADAP (Association of Artists for Peace) is proud to announce a remarkable organization which will take place in Cyprus, on February 20, 2010.
The concert “Cyprus, Island of Peace!” will bring together four famous classical music pianists: Rüya Taner and Cyprien Katsaris from Cyprus, as well as the Greek George-Emmanuel Lazaridis and the Turk Hüseyin Sermet on Ledra Palace, inside the UN-patrolled buffer zone of Cyprus.
Coming from four different communities, these piano masters will perform their art by sharing the same keys of two pianos, demonstrating that with goodwill and mutual comprehension people can overcome all difficulties and built a sustainable peace. Rather than two different concerts in the two parts of the island, artists have decided to offer a unique event on the center of the island, inside the UN-patrolled buffer zone, to show their belief in the fraternity between communities sharing the same landmass for centuries.
ADAP (Association of Artists for Peace) is a non-governmental organisation founded in Paris in 2003 by internationnaly renowned artists, coming from different origins and countries. Their aim is to fight against ideologies and actions tending to create antagonism and incomprehension among people throughout the world. Their goal is to unify people around the universal language of art.
Since its foundation, ADAP has organized successful concerts in UNESCO Headquarters (Paris), İŞ Sanat and Cemal Reşit Rey concert halls (Istanbul), Neumünster Abbey (Luxemburg), Slovak Institute (Budapest) and Bozar Concert Hall (Brussels) with fantastic musicians coming from Israel, Egypt, Iran, USA, Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, Armenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Sri Lanka and Japan.
Cyprus, the third largest island on the Mediterranean sea, known as the birth place of Aphrodite and Adonis, was presented as a gift to Cleopatra from Caesar as a proof of the greatness of his love for her. The island is a cradle for great civilizations with her nine thousand years of history, where people from different communities have been living for centuries.
On February, 20th, the sound of music will rise in the name of peace and fraternity above Cyprus, the island that brings communities together on the same soil.
The concert will start at 5 pm with pieces from Lizst, Chostakovitch, Dvorak, Poulenc, Ravel and Wagner.
